I’ve read about Kayla Itsines online because she is a popular fitness trainer who has come into fame through Instagram and the internet.  She is a 23-year-old personal trainer from Australia.  She received her personal training certificate in 2008 and has been promoting fitness ever since.

Kayla was a personal trainer in a women’s gym and kept hearing her clients request a bikini body as their goal.  This inspired her to create a unique workout program: The Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide.

The Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide claims to guide women through workouts and nutrition to achieve the coveted bikini body.  This guide is efficient and effective and only takes 12 weeks to achieve success.

My Experience

The Workouts

I decided to bite the bullet and purchase the entire Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide.  Unfortunately, I did not know that the entire package would cost $209.91 when I initially started pursuing the products.  The website claims that the package cost starts at $69.97, but I spent much more than I had originally planned.  Since I had spent all of this money, I decided to really give it a try.

Luckily I already have a gym membership, but my gym is about a 10-minute drive from my house.  I originally looked for an at-home workout program because I didn’t want to waste my time driving to and from the gym.  But like I said, I decided to give this program my all.

It turns out I was driving to the gym every day.  The Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide recommends a 30-minute workout seven days a week.  As I continued with the workouts, I discovered that many of the exercises were moves that I had learned in the free workout classes at my gym.  But I stayed optimistic and dedicated to the program.

The Diet

Let’s talk about the diet recommended in the Bikini Body Guide.  Keep in mind that I was working out every day.  The Kayla Itsines H.E.L.P Nutrition Guide instructs that you may eat a maximum of 1600 calories in a day.  Not only was I hungry all day long, I didn’t feel like I had enough energy to successfully complete my workouts.

This suggested diet felt like a crash diet.  When you’re eating a minimal amount of calories and working out every day, of course you’re going to lose weight.  You’re practically starving yourself!  As someone who tries to be health-conscious, I did not feel very healthy.

To be perfectly honest, I felt cheated!  Not only was I feeling cheated by the food, but cheated by the product.  I paid $69.97 for the nutrition guide and an extra $19.97 for the recipe guide.  I could have easily starved myself without the help of expensive books.  When purchasing this product, I was hoping for an effective solution to eat healthily while feeling fulfilled.


Though I am not a fitness professional, I do not recommend this product.  This product is designed to help real women with busy lives to quickly lose weight and feel healthy.  I did not feel healthy, and the weight I lost while doing the program was gained back soon after I finished the program.

Since trying this product, I have done much more research and have found a better and more effective workout program.  I am now doing the Jen Ferruggia Bikini Body Workout.  The program is somewhat similar to the Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide, but much better!  The workouts are 45-minutes long only four times a week.  Also, the nutrition guide recommends a 2000 calorie a day diet.  I’m not starving anymore!  You should definitely check it out, and I found several reviews on the internet that will tell you more about this product.

Kayla Itsines came out with a new workout program that you can purchase as an app.  I decided to try out her app and give you an honest review.

I have tried the Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide, and I enjoyed the program, but was always upset by how much it cost.  I thought that an app would be a less expensive option, and I wanted to see if the workouts were newer and better.

First, The Cost

If you are familiar with the Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide, then you know it is expensive!  Her website claims that the program starts at only $69.97, but the price ends up being almost triple.  So you can understand why I was eager to try out a more cost effective option.

The price to subscribe to the app is $19.99 a month.  EEK!  That’s a little more than I was hoping to pay for an app to use on my iPad or phone.  I get that a gym membership can cost that if not more each month, but I’m not using the gym equipment or space.  I’m at home trying to save money!

So I am already put off by the price of the app just as I was put off by the price of her Bikini Body Guide.  But let’s compare the price of her Sweat with Kayla App to her Bikini Body Guide.  At $19.99 a month, the Sweat with Kayla App comes out to about $240 a year!  That’s definitely more than I want to pay to work out.  The Bikini Body Guide comes out to about $210 for the entire package.  So you end up paying even more for the app!

Actual Material

Ok, so the price is not so attractive.  But maybe the workouts are newer and make it worth the extra $30 a year.

Nope!  Compared to the Bikini Body Guide workouts, the exercises are just about the same.

Well, maybe the diet is more revolutionary compared to the Bikini Body Guide diet.

No!  Same exact nutrition information and plan as the BBG.

So why are you paying an extra $30?  For the app.  You’re paying for the fancy mobile platform and the fancy technology.  I am so disappointed!

If you already have the Kayla’s Bikini Body Guide, then you basically already own Sweat with Kayla.  The only thing that makes this program new is it has been repackaged to be a mobile app.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t need to have workouts on my phone because I only work out at home.

Is There A Better Option?

The Perfect Bikini Body Workout

Let me start off by saying this: there are a LOT of workouts out there aimed at women. But let me tell you right now, Jen Ferruggia has the best one.

I know what you’re thinking – that’s a lie! Nope. I deliver a honest review. There’s one particular workout I’ve heard about called the Bikini Body Guide (a workout created by Instagram fitness model Kayla Itsines). Official site. It’s commercial nonsense, through and through. Designed to get you to invest in a program that has good name brand recognition, but otherwise can do very little to help you achieve the results you want as far as weight loss goes.

Ferruggia is not about that nonsense. Jen Ferruggia has a bikini body workout that delivers on the promises, includes instructional videos to make sure you don’t injure yourself doing improper exercise, and isn’t expensive as hell. By the way, Kayla Itsines overpriced her workout purposefully to take advantage of the name brand recognition. It’s exactly like fashion brands that charge you $10 for the fabric but you pay $30 extra for the logo they stitched into the fabric. Utter nonsense.

But I digress. We’re not talking about fashion, we’re talking about health. And when it comes to women’s health, Jen has dominated Kayla Itsines thoroughly. Don’t just take my word for it, check out all the reviews out there that happen to compare these two workouts head-to-head.

But why does Kayla’s workout have such rave reviews? She pays people to advertise the program – she pays for access to shows like Dr. Oz and Oprah to shell out her advice, and she also has an affiliate program in which people get paid to refer people to her website. Itsines is a brilliant marketer, but when it comes an actual workout, I’m afraid you’re dealing with nothing other than a scam.
